On Friday morning, July 11th, around 6:15 am, cars and vans arrived at Bishop Grimes High School to drop off excited youth and chaperones for their diocesan trip to the Steubeneville 2008 "Witness" Youth Conference at Steubenville, Ohio. There were 99 youth and chaperones that milled around the parking lot of Bishop Grimes eager to depart Syracuse for Steubenville from various parishes. This year's diocesan trip saw an increase in the number of youth that attended Steubenville.

The dioceses filled almost to capacity two buses for the trip that had youth attending from the parishes of Christ the King Liverpool, St. Matthews East Syracuse, Blessed Sacrament Johnson City, Immaculate Conception Fayettville, St. John the Baptist Rome, St. Francis/St. Mary Minoa, and St. John the Evangelist Camden. The parish of Christ the King Liverpool sent 35 people almost taking over an entire bus for their group. We are planning that next year Christ the King will need to have an entire bus for themselves for the 2009 trip.
The diocesan youth were provided a t-shirt a day for the conference in the colors of green (Friday), saphire (Saturday) and red (Sunday) to wear at the conference identifying them from the Diocese of Syracuse. In the following weeks, we will be posting more pictures and stories about the trip as they are passed to us from the various youth and chaperones that attended the trip.

2008-2009 Diocesan Youth Ministry Calendar |
|
Saturday, 14 June 2008 |
With the Pope's visit to the US, NCYC, World Youth Day and multiple
events per month, this has been the busiest programming year the Office of
Youth Ministry has seen since its beginning. This upcoming year will not
have those big three events but planning for them (except the Pope's visit)
will
continue to be ongoing. While the emphasis this year was on programming
our upcoming year's focus will be on equipping our ministers through
training and networking. We are planning on bringing in national speakers to
attend our meetings and workshops so this should prove to be a inspirational
year for our diocesan youth ministry community
Listed below you will find
the 2008-2009 Diocesan Youth Ministry Calendar of Events. Please review it
and respond with any questions you may have, also check the website
frequently for updated information.
We are sure you are still busy
preparing for summer events and finalizing details for next year as well!
Our summer conference trip to Steubenville and our pilgrimage to
Hawaii/Australia for World Youth Day both kick of in July/August, so if you have any
questions about the calendar you will need to contact
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
before July.
Thank you for all you do to serve the youth
of our diocese!
